Last month in the Gluten Free Finds, I featured the new flavours from Weis. You can’t go wrong with a company that is proud to have only gluten free products. Weis bars have always been a guilty pleasure of mine. Starting with the creamy mango and moving on to the blackberry and ice cream bars. The price is obviously a big factor, however, when I can, I buy Weis. And thankfully, for our lactose intolerant and vegan gluten free friends, their new range is dairy free and vegan-friendly.
The ‘Real Good, Feel Good’ bars come in three flavours; Dark Chocolate and Coconut, Mango Passionfruit and Coconut and Pineapple Coconut Lime. There are four individually wrapped bars in each box that retail for $7.50. I’ve found them at both my local Woolworths and Coles. Additionally, you can purchase the dairy-free Dark Chocolate and the Coconut in one-litre tubs for $8.00. I haven’t had the chance to grab the Pineapple Coconut Lime yet but I did pick up the other two flavours on sale at Coles.
The dark chocolate is rich with a bitter undertone typical of cocoa powder. I could eat just that dark chocolate ice cream forever but it is mellowed slightly by the coconut portion. The combination creates a harmonious coconut truffle flavour. The whole bar feels indulgent and I love it, but it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. Brody wasn’t a big fan, the flavour was a little too overpowering for him. He much preferred the fruity notes in the Mango and Passionfruit.
The Mango and Passionfruit bars were a fruity heaven. When paired with the sweeter fruits, the coconut flavour wasn’t as strong. The tropical notes were really refreshing and it felt more like a sorbet than an ice cream. These bars are a great way to cool down on a hot day. I can imagine that the Pineapple Coconut and Lime would be along similar lines.
We wouldn’t buy these every week or month due to the price, but they are definitely something we enjoy. It’d be nice to see some dairy-free vegan options that didn’t use coconut so that my low fodmap vegan friends could enjoy them too.
I hope that this mini mid-week review was helpful. If you have found any new products that you’d like me to check out, let me know in the comments.
