After my look last month at the Hummingbird Blendies, I thought I would share another Gluten free smoothie ball brand. Created back in 2011 by Australian based Mum, who turned her solution to children skipping breakfast into a nationally recognised brand; Smoothie Bombs.
The Smoothie bombs come in five flavours, that you can purchase online for $12.95 a tube. Each tube has its own specialty featuring:
- The Motivator – Raw Cacao Iron Booster
- The Transformer – Super Greens Detox Booster
- The Warrior – Peanut Butter Energy Booster
- The Defender – Golden Chai Immunity Booster
- The Lover – Super Berries Antioxidant Booster
Each tube contains five blend-able smoothie balls are all gluten free, vegan and contain all natural ingredients with no palm oil. Each ball weighs in at under 100 calories per bomb. Simply add your fruit, milk and blend.
Containing 86 calories per bomb, this mix contains cayenne pepper and tumeric which gives it a lovely kick. I’d definitely recommend trying out the Shine On Recipe from the smoothie bomb website. It blends this bomb with mango and avocado and milk of your choice. I really like the kick from the spice blend in this bomb. It blended entirely without any grainy texture as well.
Promoted with the flavour of peanut butter, you better believe that organic peanuts make an appearance in this ingredient list. Along with maca powder and nutmeg it has a delicious creamy flavour. I would think this is the most suitable for kids, the flavour is definitely a sweeter one. For this I tried out the Crunchy nut recipe with frozen banana.
I haven’t had much luck with detox products, especially when they are green. However, this bomb wasn’t bad. There is a good balance between the spirulina and matcha flavour against the sweetness of the dates. Although this wasn’t my favourite, I didn’t think it was off-putting. This would be a hit for those really enjoy fresh flavours.
Combining sour cherries, one of my favourite flavours and goji berries with loads of other superfoods in this smoothie bomb is a hit. This was definitely my favourite, I made up a Berry My Heart from the website recipes list. In this recipe you add other berries and I added almond milk and blend until smooth. This is my pick for best flavour and I would buy them again and again.
Second on my list of favourites is the Cacao packed smoothie bomb. Handy, considering it is the Iron Booster and I can always use some more iron in my diet. With molasses and coconut balancing the bitter cacao flavour it left me wanting more. I made my childhood favourite, Choc-Nana smoothie with banana and milk. Again this ball blended really well and left no texture. This is on my list to buy again.
For a full list of recipes and other ways to use your smoothie bombs head over to their website. At $12.95 for a tube of 5 bombs, they are roughly $2.59 a bomb. Shipping is available all over Australia or you can find them in Chemist Warehouse locations. If you need something quick, easy and convenient just pop in one piece of fruit a cup of liquid and your smoothie bomb.
