Earlier this month I saw the announcement post for Our Family Tables gluten free prawn croquettes. You might remember Our Family Table from their Costco fish fillets and their extensive range at Coles. Now alongside their squid chips and fish varieties you can pick up the prawn croquettes in the freezer aisle of Coles. The pack will set you back $11 for 270g. These are Australian made from Aussie Prawns. You can oven bake, pan fry, air fry or deep fry them. We used the air frying method following the instructions on the pack.

Heading straight into the allergens, these contain fish and crustacea. It is made on equipment that also processes soy, egg, dairy, and sulphites. Other ingredients include potato, garlic, rice flour, maize flour, mineral salts, onion, yeast extract, and vegetable gum. You will have to fully cook the prawn croquettes before eating them. The croquette itself is made of a combination of prawn, fish mince and potato. Therefore under that crispy coating you have a soft nugget like filling. You definitely get a prawn flavour, however the croquette was a little too fishy for Brody. He still really enjoys them, but he was hoping for a stronger prawn flavour.

I, on the other hand think they are really good. They go down really nicely with just some dipping sauce and salad. Although, when my friend Kristy suggested prawn croquettes in mac and cheese – you know I had to try that. Gooey cheese with the crunchy coating is delicious but then you add in the warm soft prawn mince filling and it is really nice. I do like weird combinations though so you might just take my word on it. Air frying them is a great option, because you can set and forget. They do end up crunchy not soggy but I would love to try them deep fried in the future.

Since they are on the pricier side, these won’t be an every day or even every week treat for me. However, I can definitely see them as part of a warm grazing table in the future. I am very happy that Our Family Table continues to expand their range providing safe Australian made options. If you haven’t already do check out those reviews here. If you are after more frozen heat and eat treats, you can check those on on the freezer page as well.
