Lovemore Port & Brandy Fruit Cake

The Lovemore brand is popping up everywhere lately. You can find them in independent stores like IGA, Foodworks and more. Additionally, you can find them through online stockists, although they are selling out fast. I picked mine up from GF Pantry, I know that Happy Tummies did have it. It is still in stock at Gluten Free Foods. Lovemore is from the UK, so this fruit cake is made there. In addition to this Port & Brandy Fruit Cake, you can also get gingerbread, fruit mince pies and other varieties of fruit cake. I paid $11.95 for my one.

Heading straight into the ingredients, this contains egg, and sulphur dioxide. It is made in a factory that handles nuts. Additionally, it has note that it is free from wheat and gluten and is suitable for Coeliacs and vegetarians. Other ingredients include sultanas, rice flower, raisins, potato starch, glace cherries, palm oil, coconut oil, orange and lemon peel, maize flour, xanthan gum, and of course Brandy and Port. It’s quite a moist feeling cake. I personally feel that the loaf is a great size for our family Christmas. Although if you have a bigger gluten free family, it’ll be on the small size.

This has a lovely rich flavour and you can definitely taste the brandy and port. It honestly almost had a chocolately note. There is a decent amount of fruit that adds sweetness but it isn’t overly sweet. It’s not dry and doesn’t fall apart easily. Definitely a lovely fruit cake that I can imagine eating this Christmas, and I’m not a fruit cake person. Some custard will elevate these flavours nicely. I am a massive fan of the glace cherries which are also in the other fruit cake I liked from David Jones. Port is also something I enjoy, so this is definitely up my alley.

I didn’t have the funds to get more of the Lovemore range this year. However, if it is on Australian shores next year I definitely think I’ll have to review more. Which products from Lovemore would you like me to review. For more Christmas reviews check out the Christmas Tag.
