Human Bean Co. – Faba Bean Snacks

With many nut packets falling victim to may contain statements, snacks are getting harder to find if you like to have these nibbles on hand. I won’t go into all the reasons behind the new may contain statements. However, a Queensland company recently contacted me and they may help solve this snack dilemma. The Human Bean Co. reached out and asked if I would like to try their new gluten snacks. This new product line is a crunchy and air-puffed snack, that is not only gluten free but nut free and vegan.  What is this miracle item, you may be asking? It’s Faba Beans. Faba beans are a legume crop that produces edible seeds. Of course, if you have trouble digesting legumes then these snacks won’t be of any interest. Though, for the rest of us, they at least warrant some attention.

Human Bean Co Gluten Free Faba Beans

The Human Bean Co produces four different flavours across two different pack types. Their 150g share packs are available in Lime and Black Pepper, Aussie BBQ and the Lightly Salted. Furthermore, you can purchase the Lightly Salted, Sea Salt and Vinegar and Pizza Supreme flavours in 160g multi packs. These multipacks contain 8 20g packs that are perfect for popping into your handbag.

We can talk about them being 100% Australian grown, natural, vegan and all the other points, however, the big question is how do they taste? Faba beans themselves are quite nutty in flavour. Similarly to eating a lot of nuts, eating a handful of Faba beans can be a little drying. That aside though, the crunchy legume nuggets are really filling. This is probably due to their high protein content.

In terms of the flavours, I tried the lightly salty and the sea salt and vinegar to try out. The lightly salty are exactly as their name implies; a crunchy texture with a subtle nuttiness and salty flavour. You definitely get more of the natural Faba bean flavour with those. If you are looking for more flavour, the Sea Salt and Vinegar is definitely punchy. The coating doesn’t really leave me with a lot of salt flavour. It starts off slightly salty and is soon overcome with the tang of pure balsamic vinegar. I have to agree with the description of zingy. Your mouth is filled with a sudden hit of vinegar that transitions into that light nutty flavour of the bean. They are moreish and really nice. I am hoping to try the Pizza flavour soon when I find them in stores.

While we are discussing finding them in stores. The line should be available nationally in IGA stores. If you can’t find them in a store near you, online they can be purchased through websites like Aussie Health Products. They retail for $7.50 for a multi-pack and $6.40 for the Share Packs. In addition to these savoury flavours, it appears that some sweeter ideas are in the works. If you head over to the Human Bean Co website, they list Dark Chocolate and Milk Chocolate Faba Beans as coming soon. These might be worth looking out for.

Thanks for checking out this review. Have you tried the Human Bean Co Faba Beans? Are they something you might want to pick up?
