It is once again that time of the month. November has gone really quickly and we are starting the Holiday season. For the November Finds, I have finally got my hands on a few items I’ve been looking for. A lot of these items are completely new so if you can’t find them at your local store they may still be on their way. Let me know if you’d like a mini review for any of these items and I’ll publish some. Now let’s talk about the products.
Bannisters’ Farm Potato Skins
The Bannisters’ Farm potato skins finally turned up in my local Woolworths a few weeks ago. I absolutely love potato skins, but for those who aren’t sure what they are, you typically scoop the centre out of a baked potato, mash it add ingredients and then re-fill them. There are 4 potato skins in a box and they are priced at $4 a box. That means we are paying roughly $1 per potato half and toppings. You can find them in the frozen aisle.
I expected them to be near the chips or hashbrowns, however, they were closer to the frozen proteins at my store. If you can’t get to the store as often, they are currently available online as well. The range includes three types of potato skins; cheese and baked beans, cheese and jalapeno and cheese and roasted onion. We’ve already eaten all of them, they make for really good and easy sides and have a subtle but enjoyable flavour.
Nudie Icelandic Yoghurt
Another new item to Woolworth is the Icelandic Yoghurt range from Nudie. I found three of them, however, there are five in the range. The varieties include natural, cherry, strawberry and lingonberry, blueberry and bilberry and raspberry and redcurrant.
The yoghurts boast more protein than other products and no nasties. In terms of flavour, they are not a sweet yoghurt, definitely teetering on the bitter side. These are available in both a 170g tub and a 500g tub. The individual portions are $3.00 and the larger tubs retail for $7.00.
Probably the most exciting news for November was from Robern Menz. The news is that the factory no longer contains gluten, resulting in all the products being able to be labelled gluten free. Adding to their honeycomb we now have the Friendz lollies and JeliChocs. The Friendz range moved into my local Big W store fairly quickly. The range is available nationally at Big W with other retailers including IGA, Foodland, Drakes and Cheap as Chips being localized to South Australia. There are Milk Bottles, Snakes and Bananas as well as the JeliChocs in mango, Turkish delight and raspberry. These are perfect for the upcoming Christmas season. Regular retail price for the Friendz is around $2, and the JeliChocs is around $4.
Kez’s Kitchen Free & Naked Raw Cookies
Arriving in the health food aisle of Woolworths this coming month are the newest creation in the Kez’s Kitchen Free & Naked range. Previously I’ve reviewed their Free & Naked Bars which are a nice little staple in my bag. I’m especially loving the previously released new flavours. There are two varieties in the cookie range including, peanut and choc nut. Like the rest of the Free & Naked range, these cookies are vegan, gluten free, contain no refined sugar with no artificial colours, preservatives or flavours. The 5 pack retails for $5.99 and single serve packs should also be available. I’ll be doing a full review of these cookies soon so stay tuned.
SPC Baked Bean Pots
The final item in my November finds, is a random one. Brody and I love wandering through the supermarket aisles and looking at all the products for any hidden gluten free treasures. These SPC Baked Bean pots were found on one of these adventures. Retailing for $1.50 at Woolworths there were five in the range that we could see. These 175g pots seem really handy for work lunches or quick breakfast.
The five we found at Woolworths were Sriracha, Moroccan, Cajun, Rich Tomato and Pickled Jalapeno. Along with being labelled gluten free they are a source of fibre and protein and low in sugar.
That is it for this months gluten free finds. I hope you enjoyed them. Again if you want to hear more about what I thought of the products let me know. Mini reviews are really quick and easy to get up. If you have found anything you’d like me to try out don’t forget to leave a comment. Tell me what you’re enjoying this month. With Christmas coming up I’ll be doing a lot of holiday-themed reviews so stayed tuned.
Until Next Time;
Ashlee; The Aussie Coeliac.
