Byron Bay Cookie Company Wildlife Cookies

I don’t often have the need to travel down the baby food aisle. However, when I saw the newest release from the Byron Bay Cookie Company I had to seek them out. So far these have only turned up at Coles and as mentioned you will find them in the baby food aisle. These biscuits are marketed for little paws of 12 months upwards but that doesn’t stop adults from being able to enjoy them.

Byron Bay Cookie Company Gluten Free

There are three varieties available and each box contains 10 individually wrapped packs. The biscuits themselves are well sized, great for portion control. As well as being gluten free, these biscuits are certified organic. Furthermore and especially noteworthy for me is the fact that a portion of proceeds helps support Australian Wildlife WarriorsThis organisation was initiated to protect injured, threaten and endangered wildlife by our Steve and Terri Irwin. The three flavours you can choose from are; Malt (rice malt), Cocoa and Banana.

Malt

Brody and I found the rice malt flavouring quite light. It had the maltiness of a vanilla milkshake. You can’t expect the barley malt flavour of Maltesers or milo with this biscuit. Thankfully, the part I liked the most was this biscuit wasn’t packed with sweetness. These would make a perfect dipping biscuit or light snack without weighing you down with sugar. This one reminded me of a teddy bear biscuit, although it has been years since I have had one so you’ll have to give me a bit of leeway.

Cocoa

Similarly to the Malt flavour, the Cocoa is very light in taste. It has the same slightly dry texture that melts well in your mouth. It reminded me of a plain chocolate biscuit which is a great start. Again this would be a fantastic dipping biscuit and it isn’t overly sweet. If you kind of like chocolate but not in your face chocolate then this is a great treat. I think I want to try creating gluten free Tim-Tams with them.

Banana

Finally, we have the banana which to me, smells like banana milk flavouring. Again a similar texture to the other two. They are crunchy to bite, some littlies may find them hard – but melt in the mouth. I will say that all three were on the dry side. The banana flavour translates well throughout the cookie. Brody thought it reminded him of a tik tock biscuit. This is the sweetest out of the three and just due to its unique flavour my personal favourite. How often do we get banana cookies?

In terms of allergens, all three have milk, butter and egg. The Cocoa and Banana cookies also contain honey. Again these have only been spotted in Coles at the moment, so let me know if you see them elsewhere.

  1. I would love to know whether Byron Bay Cookies are considered safe to eat for Coeliacs please as my friend says the factory at Byron makes both gluten & gluten free cookies. Q. Is there a separate workspace/line for Gliten free and in fact are these suitable to eat for those with a ‘Coeliac disease’ Diagnosis

    1. Hi Louise;
      In Australia to be labelled gluten free products must not contain any detectable gluten. While I have no association with the company so can’t talk about their factory set up or lines. It is true they make both gluten and gluten free products like many manufacturers. They will have measures in place to keep this gluten free, then test them to ensure they are safe. So yes these cookies are safe for Coeliac consumption.
