AGFL “The Box” – October

I was lucky enough to pick up my gluten free box for October early, by stopping by the Australian Gluten Free Life stall at the Melbourne Gluten Free Expo & Conference.

Sadly picking the box up this way there was no hand written name tag however it was worth it to see the wonderful treats we got this month early. As always you can find all the information you need to know about the gluten free box as well as take a look at the items we have received in the previous boxes here.

If you wish to sign up for the November box then you must do so before 5pm on the 9th of November; all orders will be shipped during the third week of the month.Tomato Gnocchi Simply Wize

The first item in the box that I picked up is going to be delectable. This I believe is a new variety of the Simply Wize Gnocchi; I received the tomato flavour which I haven’t tasted before. I didn’t get around to visiting the Simply Wize stand at the expo. While I haven’t tried the tomato flavoured gnocchi, I have had the original from Simply Wize, it is delicious. It is rather starchy but otherwise has good texture.

I can’t seem to find the new flavours at either Coles nor Woolworths but the standard 500g original flavour retails for $6.60.

Bean and Rice Chips

The second product was also the largest. I have had the Bean Fields Bean and Rice Chips before. They are a perfect and acceptable replacement for corn chips if you are wanting something a little different. I haven’t tried the Barbecue flavour but I imagine they will be smoky. The texture of the ones I have previously tried can border on grainy however when heated up with some salsa and cheese it is hardly noticeable.

A pack can be found for $5.29 from Woolworths or you can bulk buy them from the manufacturers website.

The guys over at the Australian Gluten Free Life must have read my mind, as you probably know I’ve been saying for the past few boxes Gluten Free Cookiethat I have wanted something on the sweeter side and this month they delivered. In the box is a Coeliac Society endorsed cookie from Cookie Crazy . This brand is only small and has a list of suppliers on their website. They do not exclusively make gluten free cookies so please ensure that when you are ordering you are ordering from their gluten free section. They don’t have the christmas tree cookie that I have received up on their website so I have estimated the price of the product based on their rocket cookie. Their website has a minimum purchase of six and they will cost you $27 dollars; putting each individually cookie at around $4.50.

Rowie CrackersI have heard of the Rowie’s Cakes brand before but I never knew that they had ventured into creation Vegie crackers or as they called them Snacckie Bites. The
bites are free from many allergies that one may have and contain: Water, Chia Seeds, Brown Rice Puffs, Quinoa Flake, Sunflower Oil, Zucchini, Beetroot, Carrot, Parsnip Seeds, Black Sesame Seeds

On their website they do list Woolworths as a stockist and I know that I have previously seen their Rocky Road at my local IGA however I am unable to find any stockist at the moment to obtain a price. I’ll put an estimate down of around $3.95

Go Natural Bars

We also got two original Nut Delight bars from Go Natural. These are your standard nut bar with almonds, peanuts, walnuts and brazil nuts with some rice puffs thrown in for good measure and then smothered in honey to keep them all together. This bar was extremely firm and snapped in half when I tried to bend it. Personally this bar looks like it might be a bit too hard for me to bite into but we’ll see how we go.

Each bar retails for $1.91 at Woolworths, making them a nice cheap snack for when you’re on the go or just peckish.

TPaleo Purehe final product in this months box is a tub from Paleo Pure. I did get a pack of their mixed berries trail mix in the June box of this year. This mix was blended up and added to my smoothies in the morning. This tub is a part of their what I can only imagine is their
new Paleo Muesli range. This label on the top of the tub tells me that I got apple and Cinnamon, a very good combination. The tub itself holds 100g and looks like it’d be extremely hand for when you’re on the go. The packaging on their “grab & go” line is thick plastic with a snap tight lid. There is even a line about a half an inch from the top that goes all the way around. Perhaps you should fill with milk to this line? There aren’t any instructions with the product so at this point it is up to my discretion to use it as I will.

You can purchase their muesli in both the large foil bags or in the grab & go tubs. The grab & go tubs are listed on their website for $7.95 and the bags are $24.95 for 500g.

The October box contained six different products and seven individual items; in total the estimated box worth is around; $32.11. This may be off slightly due to the Rowie’s Snacckie bites. This box certainly didn’t disappoint in variety or quality. I am a sucker for a good gnocchi dish and the recipe card we go this month is Gnocchi with spinach pesto. I cannot express how much I want to try that.

Please let me know which product you thought was your favourite, have you tried any of these before? Don’t forget to subscribe to our fortnightly newsletter so that you never miss a thing.

On a quick note; tomorrow just so happens to be the anniversary of my 17th year diagnosed. It has been a very long and not always straight journey but I’m here, I’m surviving and most importantly i’m living.

Until Next Time;

Ashlee; The Aussie Coeliac.

  1. I should congratulate that review. It is really published in a fascinating method. Good-job! P.S. I’m looking for much more material.
